In 1895, the Seghesio Family planted their first zinfandel vineyard in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. Today, Seghesio Family Vineyards is a collection of 400 acres of superior vineyard sites acquired over the past century. Vineyards in Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley were meticulously chosen by four generations of Seghesio winemakers for their diversity and capacity to bear the finest quality grapes. Today’s generation of Seghesios shares their grandfather’s passion for zinfandel with over half of their acreage dedicated to the grape.

Seghesio Family Vineyards was the dream of young Italian immigrants Eduardo and Angela Seghesio who met while each worked at the Italian Swiss Colony Winery in northern Sonoma County. In 1895, the couple purchased the original family home and a 56 acre ranch in Alexander Valley. Eduardo continued as winemaker at Italian Swiss Colony until 1902 when he completed construction of his own winery

. In the years preceding and following Prohibition, the vineyards and winery produced wine for local customers who purchased it by the gallon. Larger customers shipped wine via the railroad. Following WWII, the family was a larger, regional producer of wine who sold to other wineries. Then, in 1983, at the encouragement of the younger generation, the family began to bottle their wines under the Seghesio label.

Upon celebrating its Centennial as growers in1995, the family re-dedicated its efforts in the vineyards by limiting crop yields through careful vine management. In a commitment to produce superior quality estate wines, our fermentation cellar was redesigned and production was decreased by two-thirds.

Eight family members are involved in the daily operations of the business. These members represent third, fourth and fifth generations all united in the goal of creating great wines from the soils our forefathers left us.

Seghesio Family Vineyards is located in the historic wine town of Healdsburg. The Tasting Room is part of the original winery building dating back to 1895 and is open daily for tasting from 10am-4:30pm.
