The Hogue Cellars was founded in 1982 in Prosser, Wash. It has grown to become one of the state's largest wineries. Brothers Mike and Gary Hogue direct a team committed to bottling the bright, pure flavors of the grapes grown in eastern Washington's Columbia and Yakima valleys. The climate and soils here allow the fruit to mature completely and develop high natural acidity, an advantage many other top wine regions cannot claim.

Mike and Gary's parents, Wayne and Shyla Hogue, began farming in the Yakima Valley in the 1940's, and eventually turned management of the business over to Mike. In 1974, he planted Hogue's first wine grapes, and in 1982, the first wine (2,000 cases of Johannisberg Riesling) was produced by The Hogue Cellars. At that time Mike's brother, Gary, came on board to handle sales and marketing.

Mike Hogue founded The Hogue Cellars based on the uncomplicated values of his family's farm. He and his brother Gary continue to apply those values today. It's evident in our history and in the wonderful people creating Hogue wine today.
