The Sunshine Vineyards
are adjacent to the one-acre block which has produced the Hartwell/Grace Cabernet
Sauvignon. The 10-acre Sunshine Vineyard is planted on a rocky, steep and
terraced hillside terrain in the famous microclimate of the Stags Leap District
in the Napa Valley. The wine from this vineyard is estate bottled and aged
22 months in French medium toasted oak barrels. No blending is done, it is
100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Construction is underway on the new Hartwell Sunshine winery overlooking the
historic Silverado Trail. The winery and caves are scheduled to be completed
in time for the 1997 harvest. The Sunshine wines will be produced at the new
winery by winemaker, Celia Masyczek.
Bob Hartwell will be continuing the production of his wines from the Grace
clone - all the fruit from the Grace clone will continue to be crushed and
produced at Grace Family Vineyard by winemaker, Heidi Barrett. James Laube
rates Hartwell Vineyards Cabernet (92) and acknowledges that these wines are
difficult to find...
