Gary
Farrell Wines is the private label production of Sonoma County winemaker Gary
Farrell. He began production of the Gary Farrell label in 1982, with his first
release hitting the market in 1985. This wine, a 1982 Russian River Valley Pinot
Noir, went on to become the most awarded Pinot Noir in America during 1985, at
a time when the varietal was just gaining acceptance in the California market.
Similar successes with subsequent vintages (including most awarded Pinot Noirs
again in 1989,1990, and 1993) further established Gary Farrell's reputation for
consistency as a producer of superior premium varietal wines. Pinot Noir is Gary's
varietal of choice, both as a producer and as a consumer. Annual production of
Gary Farrell wines currently stands at about 5,000 cases, over half of which is
devoted to Pinot Noir. Smaller amounts of premium Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet
Sauvignon, and Zinfandel are also produced. Gary works very closely with his growers,
and feels that truly great wine can be made only in the vineyards. When possible
growers are credited for their efforts through the use of a vineyard designation
on the label. | Search for Gary Farrell Wines to Purchase online |
