Cuvaison
Winery owns a vineyard in Carneros located on the south side of Highways 12/121
and east of Duhig Road in the Napa Valley appellation.
In 1969 Silicon Valley engineers Thomas Cottrell and Thomas Parkhill began Cuvaison
with a 27-acre vineyard of cabernet at the winery's present location on the Silverado
Trail just south of Calistoga in the Napa Valley. The name Cuvaison, which is
French for the fermentation of wine on the skins, seemed to capture the spirit
of the winery -- a new and active beginning.
Cuvaison wines begin in the vineyards, particularly our 284 planted acres on a
400 acre estate in the Carneros district. These vineyards in the cool, southern
end of the Napa Valley, are ranked with the finest in the world for Chardonnay,
Merlot and Pinot Noir. Cuvaison's excellent winemaker, John Thacher, has helped
develop these vineyards and an international winemaking style that is praised
here and in 14 countries around the world. Manfred Esser, president, is responsible
for presenting Cuvaison to the world's wine community.
