Bryan Babcock's Approach
to Winemaking Integrity and quality are paramount to the wines of Bryan Babcock. His style acknowledges the true expression of the varietal along with the character from the soil (terroir) in which it was grown. Highly intellectual and flavorful, all of Bryan's wines possess distinctive characteristics. These unique qualities are further showcased in a "single vineyard" program with multiple annual offerings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir labeled with specific vineyard designations. Within a vintage, one varietal may have up to five different designations. Says Bryan, "I love drinking and making wines that have individuality and two basic attributes: amplitude and harmony of flavors."
Family owned and operated since 1980, Babcock Vineyards is an expanding 20,000 case winery with 70 acres planted to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. Experimental varieties such as Albariño, Tempranillo, and Pigñolo are being evaluated. Ever curious, Bryan has experimented with nearly 20 different varietals. As Vice President and General Manager of Babcock Vineyards, Bryan is involved in all aspects of the winery from farming the estate to winemaking and sales. As versatile as he is focused, Bryan is even the artist for the Grand Cuvee Chardonnay label.
