Altamura ~ Altamura Winery and Vineyards was founded in 1985
by Frank and Karen Altamura. The following truly outstanding Sangiovese had a
production of 1000 cases from fruit that produced only 3-4 tons per acre. Altamura
currently produces a total of about 3000 cases annually. The 1994 Sangiovese,
Napa Valley has a lovely perfumed bouquet of blackberry, black currants, fresh
plum, chocolate, licorice, coffee and vanilla. The flavors of black pit fruits,
layered berries, cocoa, pepper, cinnamon, coffee and subtle vanilla are complex
and very concentrated, with exceptional depth and balance, ending in a very fruity,
spicy, chocolate-etched finish that lingers on and on--Very highly recommended.
