California's
first winery and vineyard established exclusively for Rhone varieties: Viognier,
Roussanne, Syrah and Grenache. The Edna Valley vineyard is family-owned by John
Alban. At an early age he fell in love with Rhone wines, and started his vineyard
in 1989. In the cool climate valley, he grows 50 acres of Viognier, Rousanne and
Syrah, with an additional 30 more plantable acres on his 250-acre ranch. From
vineyards of the Paso Robles area he buys the heat-loving varietals Grenache and
Mourvedre. His first vintage came from leased space, of which the next year his
own winery was put in operation.
